Arrived in Shanghai in 1997, Bruno studied Chinese for a year at East China Normal University (among China’s top-10 universities) and worked for Philips Consumer Electronics China afterwards. Bruno then moved to Singapore in 1999 to join the APAC Finance team of Cisco Systems. Back in China in 2002, Bruno managed the China operations of French VC-backed Mobile Internet startups. In 2006-2007, Bruno worked as an independent consultant to French VC firms (Ventech, CDC Innovation, Auriga Partners, Iris Capital, Sofinnova Partners etc) and portfolio companies on their China entry strategy. Bruno officially joined Ventech (a US$ 500-Mil French Fund) as the first “China employee” in 2007. Late 2008, Bruno founded Shanghaivest, an investment banking advisory company, based in Shanghai. In 2010, the firm started working on cross-border M&A transactions between Europe and China. Shanghaivest was soon mandated by Sofinnova Partners to find exit strategies for portfolio company Sagem Wireless, a France-originated Mobile phone OEM. Thanks to Shanghaivest, Sagem Wireless main assets (a 450-people R&D Center) successfully merged with Consumer Electronics giant TCL Communication (HK: 02618) in 2011.
Bruno also founded the Shanghai Chapter of MobileMonday (the largest mobile industry community around the world) in 2006 and became an angel investor in local startups in 2009. He was then co-opted to join the Steering Committee of Angelvest, the largest independent angel investment organization in China (80+ angel investors from Greater China, 25 companies invested as of August 2013). Bruno is also a mentor at Chinaccelerator, a Dalian-based startup accelerator affiliated with TechStars.
Bruno shares his time between Europe and China and is a regular speaker, panelist and moderator at various local and international conferences on early-stage investment, technology or cross-border Merger & Acquisitions. He is also a contributor to articles and theses on China investment, cross-border M&A and technology environment in China. Bruno has an MBA from INSEAD and is a graduate in Aeronautical Engineering from SUPAEO in France. Bruno also studied at East China Normal University in Shanghai.
